Come for the education! Stay because your bike got stolen
This is what students highlight when they tell the world about DMJX
On the third semester of the TV and Media Planning programme (TVM), DMJX opens its doors to the world. The semester is international, and one of its core courses – Corporate Communication – brings Danish and international students together in a shared learning environment where theory meets practice and communication becomes a strategic craft.
The course Corporate Communication focuses on how organizations communicate with purpose – across platforms, stakeholders and cultures. Students work with strategic communication processes ranging from audience analysis and message development to visual storytelling and campaign production. The course is taught in English and reflects the realities of working in an international professional context.
Learning by doing
A key part of the course is its strong connection to practice. Students work on assignments that either involve real clients or mirror real-world communication challenges. This gives them insight into the professional frameworks, expectations and constraints that shape communication work in companies and organizations.
As part of the course, students produce an audiovisual communication solution that addresses a specific need. In previous years, cases have included organizations such as European Sperm Bank and IKEA. This year, however, the case was close to home: DMJX itself!
The students were tasked with developing a campaign that would:
- increase awareness of DMJX among international students
- present DMJX as a professional, dynamic and welcoming place to study
- communicate the academic and cultural value of studying in Denmark
- inspire students from partner institutions to consider an exchange semester at DMJX
The aim was not only to inform, but to build curiosity, engagement and an emotional connection to DMJX as an international education institution.
The art of asking good questions – and baking good bread
So what do students emphasize when they are asked to tell the world about DMJX?
In one of the particularly well-executed productions created during the course, the answer is clear: DMJX offers a unique combination of theory and practice. The students highlight how they are challenged not just to produce content, but to think critically, ask (the right) questions and approach communication with curiosity and reflection.
And then there is the cultural side. Alongside lectures, group work and productions, the video also captures everyday student life in Denmark – including an unexpected, but memorable highlight: Danish bread culture! Because studying abroad is not only about what you learn in the classroom, but also about the small, shared experiences that shape life on and outside of campus.
