Lene Aarøe’s forskningsområde er politisk psykologi, holdningsdannelse og effekter af politisk kommunikation i den offentlige debat, fra nyhedsmedier og på sociale medier. 

Hendes forskning er bl.a. udgivet i American Political Science Review, Journal of Politics og Psychological Science. 

Lene Aarøe er projektleder på projektet “Exemplar Democracy: Psychological Biases and the Impact of Exemplars on Factual Perceptions and Attributions of Government Responsibility”,der er finansieret af Danmarks Frie Forskningsfond. Hun er I øjeblikket fellow på AIAS (Aarhus Institute for Advanced Studies)
