The internationally wellknown education in photo journalism in Denmark expands giving international students a new possibility to study advanced visual storytelling.
Up til now it has been possible for international students in photo journalism to take a six month course in photo journalism with the name The language of photo journalism.
On it are students that themselves find their way to the course, and exchange students from one of the over 40 university partners, that The School of Media and Journalism has.
Diploma a possibility
Now the department of Photo Journalism at the school expands. From fall 2009 it will also be possible to attend the six months course Advanced Visual Storytelling. By completion of both courses it is possible to achieve a diploma in photo journalism.
The diploma will attract even more international students to the school, where some of the internationally best students already study photo journalism. Usually students from the Danish School of Media and Journalism win both national and international prizes like World Press Photo.
International focus
”In an ever more global environment it is imperative that upcoming photo journalists have an opportunity to take an internationally focused education in photo journalism. The ability to express stories, themes and lives visually will be of groving importance in journalism.
Therefore we now offer the opportunity to take a diploma in photo journalism after a one year study,” Soeren Pagter, dean of photo journalism at the Danish School of Media and Journalism says.
The international students will work together with Danish students in photo journalism. On the new six months course in Advances Visual Storytelling the international students will be on the same course as the Danish students who are taking the final semester of their four year education.
The language spoken during classes and in projects will be English.
”Expanding the international opportunities has two goals for us. We wish to give international students a possibility to dive futher into photo journalism than they can during a half year course, and we wish to promote the global environment among photo journalist networking already as students.
We also wish to give our Danish students a more international environment where they can inspire and be inspired in a global class of photo journalism,” Soeren Pagter says.
During Advanced Visual Storytelling the students will work with projects like digital magazines where themes and stories are told in sound, picture, streams and text.
